In case you were wondering, we flew to NC yesterday and drove to VA for Sneed's HS reunion. Our return to Houston, however, won't be until Sunday, 25 July, as we will be flying to Toronto tomorrow morning for the RROC National Meet in Markham. We had some free time today so drove to Roanoke via the Blue Ridge Parkway. Many flowers captured my eye along the way and Sneed graciously stopped so I could capture them on digital disk.

Our destination today, however, was the Virginia Transportation Museum wherein 611 the only surviving Class J Powhatan Arrow resides. Sneed remembers Powhatan Arrows traveling through Bedford, stopping at the Bedford depot, allowing him to embark on several memorable journeys as a young lad. It was a trip back in time for him to once again reacquaint with the train of his childhood.

1218 is also a train of note. Familiarly known as a 2-6-6-4 it is notable as it has 2 engines in one with four steam pistons. Here Sneed is at the controls in the cabin of the only engine at the museum in which one could pretend. This train had a diesel electric engine.
Here Marque shows the same passion as Sneed in wishing he could have raced the 611 back in the day.
