I'm Not Going to Tell

We went to the matinee of The Mousetrap at the Alley Theatre this afternoon. All the action took place on the same stage set, the Great Hall at Monkswell Manor, 1949. As the play unraveled, we were all fooled as evidenced by the audience's reaction to the revelation of the murderer. There always has to be a murder of some sort in an Agatha Christie mystery. Kudos to you, Agatha! As the performers were taking their bows, we were told that Agatha herself made the request that the audience be advised of the following after every performance. To paraphrase, the audience was welcome to recommend the play to friends; however, under no circumstances were they to reveal the twist ending.

The Mousetrap has been running continuously since it opened in the West End of London in 1952. It has the longest initial run of any play in history, with over 24,000 performances so far. It is the longest running show (of any type) of the modern era.

Afterwards, we went to Pappadeaux Seafood for a shared dinner: Greek salad, crab cake, and Louisiana seafood gumbo (minus the oysters, the waiter told us, as he mumbled something about oil in the Gulf).
