*Sigh* Seeing

Meetings wound up yesterday evening so we had a free day to do some sightseeing. We traveled from Reno through the capital, Carson City, to Lake Tahoe for some more sightseeing around the perimeter on the California side. The following photos display some of the scenes as we went riding along in our rental - a Chevrolet Impala...I could just hear Dinah Shore singing "See the USA in your Chevrolet..." Well, we're doing our part in Nevada and California.

Please bear in mind. The majority of these photos were taken from the car, either out the front or the side window, as we sped along the highway or meandered up the curvy mountain roads, so they may not be as clear as one would think they should be.

Views of Emerald Bay


We saw quite a few of this particular bird which evidently is in the Jay family. At a scenic overlook, Sneed followed this one bird around trying to get a decent photo of it. We can't identify it from Peterson's A Field Guide to the Birds East of the Rockies.

As we were driving along, Sneed pointed out this wooden structure along the side of the mountain and asked if I knew what is was. I answered very confidently, "it's for trains" and he evidently agreed as he didn't offer any contradiction. However, as we followed it for miles and miles and miles, it was quite obvious it didn't have anything at all to do with trains. It's an aqueduct. How cool!
